BOOKS FOR UNDER PRIVILEGED CHILDREN

Hirsch’s is collecting children’s books for their “Home makeover” project.  This year they are helping to build a pre-school for
200 children at Mt. Moriah near Phoenix.    Said Hirsch’s Jenny Syren, Training Manager for Hirsch’s “Over 200 children are being cared for in make shift containers. Toilet and kitchen facilities are abysmal.  There is no government funding for the school and the children, ranging in age from18 months to 5 year olds, have nowhere else to go.” Hirsch's plan is to build a formal pre-school and day care centre, a library, ablution blocks and community centre on the site.  Hirsch's KZN Action Team  will be managing the project "We already have all the necessary backing from the local councillor as well as the community at large. The Phoenix Child Welfare who has a close relationship with the Mount Moriah Centre will be overseeing the centre. The community centre will also be the focal point  for  entertainment, in a warm, social environment, bringing a sense of belonging to the elderly as well as the youth.” they told us.
If you have any old children’s books, please drop them off with Victoria Laubscher at Hirsch Pietermaritzburg. Contact her on 033 328 2700

Hirsch's would like to partner with their customers in this venture and  are appealing for assistance to make this project a great success. We would like to give you the opportunity to invest in the future of the community of Mount Moriah, by helping to buy the building blocks for the project. Bricks will be branded with your name and your contribution.  “We believe that this fantastic project will be a long term benefit to a community that is in such desperate need of a life line.”  Jenny said.

HIRSCH'S PIETERMARITZBURG HAND POPCORN OUT TO TRAVELERS ON THEIR WAY TO WORK

People on their way to work was a little puzzled  with Hirsch's Pietermaritzburg staff handing out boxes of popcorn to people on their way to work early on the Friday. It was a lovely sunny morning and the puzzled travellers soon turned to happy travellers with boxes of popcorn to nibble on. Definitely a cure for those traffic jams. The team of Hirsch's staff was very enthusiastic about this feel good act and there were smiles all round.
